The Piplaldal was constructed across the huge new reservoir created by the Tehri dam, the highest in India and the 5th highest in the world. With the old river now submerged under hundreds of feet of water, the new Piplaldal suspension bridge crossing became necessary. Crossing the Bhilangana River arm, it is one of two high bridges over the lake.
