The Piplaldal was constructed across the huge new reservoir created by the Tehri dam, the highest in India and among the 10 highest in the world. The old river surface at the crossing is approximately 125 meters below the full reservoir surface. With the deck another 30 meters above the lake the Piplaldal Bridge is approximately 155 meters high.

Piplaldal is one of 3 high and long span suspension bridges over the Tehri reservoir including the Syansu and Chanthi Dobar Bridges.
