Mister Twister is the most legendary coaster ever designed by famed Philadelphia Toboggan Company engineer John Allen. Originally opened in 1965 with two large but slow helixes that came immediately after ascending the lift, the park had Allen come back a few years later to enlarge the ride. The taller 96 foot lift led to two large, straight drops of 80 and 70 feet before reconnecting with the older double helix making for one of the most thrilling twister coasters for its time.

In 1994 a heavily modified version of the Twister opened at the newly relocated Elitch Gardens near downtown Denver. Called Twister II, the less compact wood coaster offers a more mild ride that is not as revered as the original. In 1999 Knoebels Grove in Pennsylvania opened a more accurate and faithful recreation of the Twister with the original double helix.
