Makou Railway Bridge is one of several big beam bridges on the Yi-Wan Railway line deep within the mountainous stretch between Yichang and Wanzhou/Chongqing cities. The 570 meter long bridge is comprised of an odd back-to-back span configuration with a cantilevered 85+85 meter T-beam on the east side transitioning into a more conventional double beam on the west side with a 60+2×100+60 span arrangement. The tallest pier measures 108.5 meters.

Makou is one of an incredible 8 bridges on the Yi-Wan line that exceed 100 meters in height. The other 7 include Yexihe, Mashuihe, Dukouhe, Longwangmiao, Shuangliu, Sibuhe and Luobuxi.
