Luosizhai Bridge
螺丝寨特大桥
Gulin, Sichuan, China
489 feet high / 149 meters high
591 foot span / 180 meter span
2016
Luosizhai is the first of 4 towering beam bridges on the 70 kilometer Xugu expressway that connects the city of Xuyong on the G76 with the city of Gulin and eventually the Chishui River gorge where it will connect with the Renchi expressway in Guizhou. Construction on the second phase of the expressway will not start until 2017 and will include a giant suspension bridge more then 300 meters high across the Chishui River.
The Luosizhai Bridge is located just one kilometer east of the G76 expressway where the Xugu expressway heads east along the Gulin River canyon and is most notable for having an arch span on the east end where several small approach spans would normally be used. The reason for using the arch is unknown but one probability is an unstable slope that might be susceptible to sliding.
Other high bridges on the expressway include the Tiantanghe, Modaoxi, Shilianghe and two crossings of the Gulin River.
