Laoyingyan is one of 4 giant beam bridges that traverse over or along the deep Beipanjinag River valley on the Shuipan 水盘高速公路 expressway that connects the city of Liupanshui and the G56 with the G60 expressway in Shuicheng and Panxian Counties. The 816 meter long bridge has a span configuration of 85+2x160+85 +8x40 meters atop piers as high as 126 meters. Despite being only 155 meters above the ground, Laoyingyan skirts so closely to the edge of the mighty Beipanjiang River gorge that travelers have an unobstructed view of the 300+ meter drop to the river below.

Just four kilometers north of Laoyingyan is the massive Beipanjiang 2013 Bridge with the longest beam span ever attempted on a high level bridge with a distance of 290 meters between piers. Two kilometers north is the 208 meter high beam bridge Wanglongbao while just one kilometer north of Laoyingyan is the famous 2001 Beipanjiang Railway Bridge with its 275 meter high arch. There are few places in the world where there are 4 high bridges in such close proximity to each other. The 4 giant beam bridges are located at kilometers 31, 33, 35 and 37.
