One of the most beautiful bridges on Spain’s spectacular A8 Autovía del Cantábrico is the Puente de la Regenta. Also known as the Puente Pintor Fierros, the concrete arch bridge spans a tree filled gully near the coastline of Asturias in Northern Spain.
The arch has a main span length of 636 feet (194 mtrs) and a rise of 164 feet (50 mtrs). The span is named after the character in Leopoldo Allas’s novel La Regenta. The A8 is turning into one of Spain’s most beautiful highways with several of the viaducts offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. Although the A6 gets all the attention when it comes to high Spanish bridges, the A8 has amassed a nice collection of its own with such monsters as the Canero, San Pedro/Rio Esqueiro, Río España and Artedo bridges. All are at least 295 feet (90 mtrs) high.
