Guankouya Bridge
关口垭大桥
Langpingzhen, Hubei, China
394 feet high / 120 meters high
492 foot span / 150 meter span
2009

Although the Guankouya beam bridge is not as impressive as the 200 meter high monsters just a few kilometers to its east and west, this beam bridge still demands respect with a commanding view 120 meters above a V-shaped mountain creek along the great G50 expressway.

The two curving bridges have a span configuration of 82+ 150+ 82 meters atop piers as tall as 56 meters. The westbound span is about 8 meters lower in height. Steel straps are located beneath the main span at several intervals and were likely the result of concrete splitting off from improper pouring. Hopefully this quick fix will keep the span in good shape for at least a couple of decades.
