Considered by many to be the greatest wood coaster ever designed by Fred Church, the giant Cyclone Racer had a perfect balance of large drops, airtime hills and swooping turnarounds enhanced by the threat of being plunged into the Pacific Ocean. The structure lasted for almost 40 years before being unnecessarily removed for access roads leading to the Queen Mary ocean liner across the harbor. The first drop of 75 feet had an angle of 51 degrees.

The Cyclone Racer appeared in dozens of Hollywood movies and TV shows. There is a movement to have the Cyclone Racer accurately rebuilt to its original specifications by Los Angeles area engineer Larry Osterhoudt.
