Cyclone Puritas Springs

No other ravine coaster of the 1920s was as legendary as the Cyclone at Puritas Springs in Northern Ohio. The out and back ride had an initial first drop that plunged approximately 76 feet into a forested creek gorge before traversing along the edge of the canyon along a series of high humpback drops typical of designer John Miller. Then at the end of the ride the train flew back down into the gorge one last time on a drop reported to be as much as 87 feet.

With the exception of the Blue Streak at Woodcliff Pleasure Park in Poughkeepsie, New York, it would not be until 1968 when Kennywood created the Thunderbolt that another ravine coaster would have such a spectacular and large final drop to end a ride.
