Cyclone Palisades

Outside of Coney Island, no park in the New York area was more popular than Palisades Park located in New Jersey high up along the Palisades cliffs overlooking the Hudson River. Their Cyclone coaster opened in 1945 using some of the remains of the Skyrocket coaster that had largely burned in 1944. The newer and larger ride stood about 90 feet tall and was designed by Herbert Schmeck of PTC with construction overseen by Joseph A. McKee.

The first and second drops were approximately 70 feet. The second plunge was especially thrilling as it descended from a beautiful fan curve. The train then dove into the structure where it negotiated a series of hidden drops and turns surrounded by "tunnels" of wood that were loaded with head choppers. The original Skyrocket was designed by John Miller in 1926.
