Comet Forest Park Highlands

Upon its completion in 1941, the Comet at Forest Park Highlands became the tallest coaster ever designed by famed Phildelphia Toboggan Company engineer Herbert Schmeck. Like many of his coasters, the Comet was a double out and back composed of fast, straight drops with slower turnarounds and few curves. The first and second drops descended into a shallow, 15 foot deep ravine that was also inhabitated by grazing animals. The coaster ran three trains, each with 8-seater cars except for the first car which had a long, streamlined hood complete with a working light and PTC manufacturer logo.

Five years after the Comet opened at Forest Park Highlands, Schmeck would design his largest ride ever, the Comet at Crystal Beach in Ontario, Canada.
