690 feet high / 210 meters high
591 foot span / 180 meter span
2013
Located near the city of the same name in northwestern Guizhou Province, the giant Hezhang Bridge will be one for the record books when it is completed in 2013 with a central pier 195 meters high from base to cap. Only the Millau Viaduct and Mexico's under San Marcos bridge will have taller piers. The octagon shaped super pier supports two main spans of 180 meters. A cable stayed design with a span of 322 meters was studied but passed in favor of the double beam span design.
An aerial view just before the highway opened in 2009. That same year a deep reservoir formed beneath the span.
