One of the highest bridges in Italy upon its completion in 1918, the Pianello arch bridge spans a deep crevasse just east of the mountainous city of Muro Lucano in Potenza Province. The 2-lane structure is 76 meters long with a concrete arch of 40 meters.
Although some sources have the height of Pianello Bridge as 105 meters, photos reveal a deck that is more likely about 80 meters above the river level. On the northwest side of the bridge there is a trail that leads down to the old medieval stone arch.
