Mengdonghe Bridge Yongji
永吉高速猛洞河大桥
Gaopingxiang, Hunan, China
820 feet high / 250 meters high
879 foot span / 268 meter span
2017
Mengdonghe Bridge Yongji is the highest span on the north-south S99 Longshan-Yongshun-Jishou expressway. The 4-lane route is loaded with at least 10 beam bridges that exceed 100 meters in height making it one of Hunan's more impressive mountain highways.
The 268 meter span Mengdonghe arch bridge is located approximately 10 kilometers south of the Mengdonghe arch bridge on the Zhangjiajie expressway. Like all good "sequels", the newer Mengdonghe crossing is slightly larger with a span 13 meters longer then the 2013 original. The CFST concrete filled steel tubular span has a span configuration of 3x30 +268 +6x30 meters. The main arch span has a span to rise ratio of 3.8 to 1. The deck is 24.5 meters wide.
The central rib of the Mengdonghe Yongji Bridge is 268 meters. The 8 central steel tubes are lowered into place and once closed at the crown the hollow tubes are pumped with concrete. This style of construction is used in China for most of their mountain gorge arch spans.Image by Eric Sakowski.
