Xiqiang Jiuhuang Mountain Footbridge is a beautiful suspension span strung between two cliffs that are located high up on the slope of a scenic mountain and cave area in Sichuan Province and completed in 2004. A newer and larger glass footbridge was built in 2019 up the cliff about 50 meters higher in elevation.
The Jiuhuang Mountain spot covers an area of more then 30 square kilometers loaded with cliffwalks, caves, forests and cultural sights.
The footbridge is unique for having a single main cable with cantilevered stringer cables that support what is probably the narrowest deck of any major tourist footbridge in China at only 1 meter.
The Wenchuan 2008 earthquake dislodged large boulders that partially destroyed the south end of the original footbridge before it was rebuilt in 2010.
The newer glass footbridge from 2019 and the lower footbridge from 2004.
A view of the older bridge towers.
The south end of the bridge was partially destroyed in the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008.
