The Zhongduhe Bridge crosses a tributary of the Jinshajiang River that has been submerged in water over 70 meters deep from the completion of the giant Xiangjiaba Dam across the river 70 kilometers downstream to the east. The wide cable stayed bridge is part of the mountainous G4216 Yibin to Panzhihua Expressway that has several other high bridges and many long tunnels including the giant 510 meter span Xi'ninghe arch bridge.
Just to the north is the Yangliuba beam bridge.
The area is home to 7 high bridges that have all been partially submerged in the reservoir including the Xi'ninghe G4216 Expressway Bridge, the Xi'ninghe X163 Bridge, the Xi'ninghe S307 Bridge, the Zhongduhe G213 Bridge, the Jinshajiang Bridge Nan'an and the Yangliuba Bridge.
